SPLENDA® Sucralose Safety & Testing
The safety of sucralose is supported by more than 100 scientific studies conducted over a 20-year period. Prominent health and regulatory agencies around the world have reviewed these studies and have confirmed its safety including:
- U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA)
- Joint Food and Agriculture Organization/World Health Organization Expert Committee on Food Additives
- The European Union's Scientific Committee on Food
- Health Protection Branch of Health and Welfare Canada
- Food Standards Australia-New Zealand (FSANZ)
Since 1991, millions of consumers have safely used sucralose (SPLENDA® Brand Sweetener).
Sucralose is safe for use as a food additive by the general population, including children and women who are pregnant or breast-feeding. It is also suitable for people with diabetes because it does not affect blood glucose or insulin levels. The FDA requires no warning labels or information statements that would preclude anyone from enjoying sucralose-sweetened products.
Here is what experts have said about the safety of SPLENDA® Brand Sweetener:
- "In determining the safety of sucralose, FDA reviewed data from more
than 110 studies in humans and animals. Many of the studies were designed
to identify possible toxic effects including carcinogenic, reproductive
and neurological effects. No such effects were found, and FDA's approval
is based on the finding that sucralose is safe for human consumption."
FDA
Talk Paper T98-16.
- "There is adequate evidence, [for sucralose], that there are no concerns
about mutagenicity, carcinogenicity, development or reproductive toxicity."
